Futterman Bean Collection Project

In June of 2000, Mark had to make a difficult decision of ceasing his annual grow outs.  In order to preserve the bean collection that he had assembled, he sent it off to Seed Saver's Exchange.  Click here for a copy of the cover letter he sent.

In 2004, Mark entrusted us with the preservation of his library.  Upon learning of his passing, we decided that it would be a fitting tribute to also maintain his bean collection. This web page represents the on going project of reassembling the collection of Mark Futterman. This list was compiled from garden logs provided by his family.

Varieties held in our seed bank are marked in the first column with an "X".  If the cell is light blue, it indicates that the variety was successfully grown out and a safe supply is in the freezer.

If there are any of these varieties that you hold, we would be grateful to receive some.  Additionally, any copies of correspondence you may have had with Mark would be welcomed as well.

Cutshort, Tennessee  SN/P 1987 OK MC G  X       X     X     X         X     Source: OK MC G 06.  Medium height, somewhat determinate vines, produces heavily that dries down completely, 5-7 seeds per pod.  Good as a snap young but gets stringy.  George McLaughlin states that it is a family heirloom from his wife's Aunt Clara and Uncle Doy in Salem, IL in 1985.  They got the seeds from Olive Stroup who had gotten the seed from her sister in TN in about 1950.  When George moved to Mexico for 5 years, nearly lost the seed.  Thankfully, Mark Futterman had maintained it and was able to offer it back to George in 1999.  Harvested 15 ounces of seed.
